What is acupuncture

The working principle of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is based on the concept of body energy - "Qi" (Japanese: " Ki" ) .

The freely developing body energy supplies our entire organism and is also reflected in our mental and spiritual appearance.

According to the traditional view, a lack of energy qi or a dysregulation of it can cause illness in the first place.
The term Qi is scientifically explained with neurohormonal, bioelectrical and chemical processes in the body.

By inserting hair-thin acupuncture needles into experience points, the above-mentioned physiological processes are regulated and the self-healing powers of humans unfold.
The acupuncture points and body channels (so-called meridians ) are stimulated in various ways.

The free spread of body energy Qi is often perceptible as a second phenomenon and causes a deep healing process.
The organ functions as well as the mental abilities of humans are supported in a regulating manner.
A so-called placebo effect does not play a significant role in acupuncture, because the effect of this therapy method can also be seen in unconscious people or, for example, horses.

The acupuncturist's empathy and technical skills are essential for the success of the therapy.

Japanese acupuncture

Starting from China, the art of acupuncture spread in Japan from the 6th century AD.

The peculiarities of Japanese acupuncture are its specific tactile findings (so-called Haradiagnostik) as well as the painless application. Only those acupuncture points are needled, which previously improved the quality of the pulse in a manual test, influenced the acute complaints and relaxed the conspicuous Hara zones.

The Hara zones are diagnostically and therapeutically important areas of the body of the abdomen, neck and along the spine. They often show up, for example, in the form of swelling of the connective tissue, massive muscular tension or changes in skin moisture or temperature.

The examination of these zones, the traditional pulse and tongue diagnostics as well as your individual symptoms and information on any previous illnesses lead to diagnosis and therapy.

For Japanese acupuncture I use high-quality, very fine single-use needles (0.12 mm to 0.18 mm) made of special surgical steel. The puncture itself is hardly noticeable. Patients describe the effect of the inserted needle as a pleasant, spreading feeling of warmth, relaxation and heaviness.

Between the placement of the respective needles, I check the desired changes in the pulse quality and the Hara findings, which usually precede the noticeable impact of the therapy.

In the case of some diseases, it is advisable to support the therapeutic effect by using intradermal permanent needles. They are used in particular for pain syndromes, restricted mobility, internal and functional diseases and for treatment of nicotine addiction.

The intradermal needles are imperceptibly held in place by a skin plaster for several days and without interfering with personal hygiene or even during exercise.

Special forms of the Japanese acupuncture procedures are the head acupuncture according to Yamamoto (YNSA) as well as the Keiraku Chiryo meridian therapy, which is particularly gentle in its application and therefore well tolerated by children.

Head acupuncture according to Yamamoto (YNSA)

This acupuncture method was developed around 40 years ago by the Japanese doctor Toshikatsu Yamamoto. He discovered the special interaction between acupuncture points on the scalp and areas of the traditional Hara diagnostics described above, as well as corresponding painful areas.

The practical procedure for the treatment according to Yamamoto is comparable to acupuncture on the auricle, with the difference that the acupuncture needles are placed on the temples, the forehead or the occiput.

Acupuncture according to Yamamoto has proven itself many times in the treatment of neurological diseases such as migraines, Menière's disease or Parkinson's, after a stroke, visual disorders or to maintain the mobility and independence of patients with multiple sclerosis.

I also use the YNSA for the therapy of acute or chronic pain syndromes and restricted mobility as well as functional disorders of the respiratory, digestive and urogenital systems.

Keiraku Chiryo

In this classic form of Japanese acupuncture or meridian therapy, the fine acupuncture needles are placed very superficially and absolutely painlessly with the help of a guide tube.

The desired compensation of energetic deficiency or excess in the body meridians can be checked with the help of traditional pulse and hara diagnostics during the acupuncture session.

The effect of the therapy is also immediately apparent when acute symptoms such as pain, dizziness, tension or nausea subside.

I use Keiraku Chiryo to supplement the Shônishin treatment in children from approx. Preschool age and for certain indications for adult patients.

Shônishin child treatment

With the Japanese Shônishin method, an effective, easy-to-dose and pleasant therapy for infants, toddlers and school-aged children has developed in Japan over the past 250 years.

Shônishin is used "non-invasively", ie the use of acupuncture needles is dispensed with. The acupuncture points, meridians and reflex zones are rather stimulated by repeated, light strokes and gentle tapping using various treatment instruments and the hands.

With regard to their physiology and energetics, children are very different from adults and react much faster and more sensitively to therapy stimuli. The optimal stimulus dosage is therefore of great importance.

With the help of this treatment method, everyday pediatric problems such as colds, digestive or sleep disorders can be cured in a natural way and congenital or acquired, more serious illnesses can be effectively alleviated in addition to conventional medicine.

The Shônishin therapy is also suitable for strengthening the overall constitution and vitality of your baby or school child.

After a practical guide, you as a parent can easily continue some basic treatment steps at home and thus support the healing process of your child.

For some illnesses in older children, the combination of Shônishin with Keiraku Chiryo, a gentle and painless needling method from the field of Japanese meridian therapy, is recommended .

Special indications for Shônishin:

Immune weakness, chronic tonsillitis or otitis media, diseases of the upper respiratory tract, constantly runny nose, bronchial asthma, neurodermatitis, acne, allergic eczema, food intolerance, digestive disorders, vomiting, colic, diarrhea or constipation, headache, stuttering, ADD / ADHD, wetting, chronic . Cystitis, sleep, posture or maturation disorders, central or peripheral, spastic or flaccid paralysis.

Ear acupuncture according to Nogier

Ear acupuncture or auriculotherapy according to Nogier is a specific method of acupuncture on the auricle.

Tissue changes that can be detected on the ear, flaking skin, jammed veins or pressure sensitivity allow conclusions to be drawn about coupled sections of the body.

For example, a patient with painful shoulder stiffness on the right side is very likely to have conspicuous corresponding zones on the right auricle.

In addition to the “joint point of the shoulder” located on the outer ear, I now treat other areas of the ear if necessary, e.g. correspondence points of the spine, the nervous system, the immune system or the digestive tract. Because disorders of the biliary tract or the intestine in particular often cause discomfort in the shoulder and neck region.

Ear acupuncture points, which have been proven to regulate the body's own cortisol level or mineral balance, are also included in the treatment concept.

With the help of suitable acupuncture stimulation, manual joint mobilization and exercise instructions, shoulder joint complaints with radiologically proven calcium deposits can also be effectively treated.
